of Chelsea, Michigan.  Age 91, Adeline passed away Friday, April 6, 2012 at 3:00 pm at her home with her family and church pastor.

She was born November 5, 1920.  Adeline was the daughter of Augustus & Marie (Schneider) Shanahan of Ann Arbor.  She was a graduate of St. Thomas High School, and attended Cleary College preparing to help with her father’s coal company.  She met her husband, a member of the National Guard and Army, William E. Rowan Jr. at the Ann Arbor Armory.  They enjoyed dancing and music, and once performed at the Ann Arbor Country Club. She raised and cared for her family, and drove school bus for the Ann Arbor Public Schools.  Mrs. Rowan and most of her family have attended and are members of Dexter Gospel Church in Dexter for many years.

 


She is survived by four children, Richard (Heldy) Rowan of Traverse City, Patricia Thomas of Chelsea, Suzanne (David) Pace of Dexter, and Diane (Dave) Vertican of Gaylord; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992, her brother Bernard in 1947, her father in 1971 and her mother in 1976.


Many thanks go out to Arbor Hospice for their care and compassion during Adeline’s sudden illness and this difficult time.  Arrangements are with Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.  She will be put to rest at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Ann Arbor.  The family and friends gathered at Dexter Gospel Church for a memorial and luncheon on April 21, 2012, 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Drive or Dexter Gospel Church, 2253 Baker Road, Dexter, MI 48130.
