of Chelsea, MI, age 96, died Saturday, March 3, 2012 in her home. She was born September 20, 1915 in Romeo, Michigan, the daughter of Albert B. and Mabel L. (Bentley) Werdehoff.

On May 29, 1936, she married John A. Miller in Detroit, and he preceded her in death on July 4, 1997.   Survivors include 4 daughters, Bernice (Gary) Packard of Chelsea, Virginia (Dale) Weese of Arcadia, FL, Judy (Phil) Radant of Chelsea, and Marilyn Hopkins of Brooklyn, MI; 1 sister Marian Solem of Traverse City; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.  She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and a son-in-law, Ken Hopkins.


Bernice has resided in the Chelsea area since 1948. She worked at Fairbrothers Market in Waterloo, Anderson’s Department Store in Chelsea, drove school bus for Chelsea schools, and managed the Village Bakery.  She also delivered the Detroit Times and Ann Arbor News to rural customers.  Bernice attended the Chelsea First United Methodist Church and served as a hospital volunteer in Aiken, SC, and Chelsea.  She was first and foremost a wife, mother and grandmother.  She was happiest when surrounded by family and family friends.


Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 7, 2:00 p.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating.  Burial will be Saturday, March 10, 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea .  The family received friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan 400 Mack Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201-2136 or Chelsea First United Methodist Church, 128 Park St, Chelsea, MI 48118.
