Obituaries


of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Ann Arbor, age 95, died Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born March 12, 1921 in Bronson, Michigan, the daughter of William & Anna Eva (Semmelroth) Foster.      Phyllis graduated from Bronson High School in 1938, then Albion College in 1942, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.  She attended the University of Michigan where she earned her Masters of Science in Biochemistry. She worked as a Research Associate for the University of Michigan (School of Public Health) and retired in 1986.  Phyllis was very active in the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor, and helped start the memorial gardens there. She also served on the Ann Arbor District and Detroit Conference of the United Methodist Church, where she was the District President of the United Methodist Women, and chaired the Conference Board of Trustees.

Survivors include many cousins, including Conrad Semmelroth of Battle Creek, Marie Semmelroth-Daniels of Coldwater, and Carl & Sara Semmelroth of Kalamazoo.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Louise Good.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, 2:00 pm at the Chelsea Retirement Community Chapel, with Rev. Cathy Rafferty  officiating.  Her ashes will be interred at the  First United Methodist Church Memorial Gardens in Ann Arbor.  Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea Retirement Community.
